I enjoy a good superhero cinematic universe. I think it has been done pretty well a couple times. Marvel has done okay at it. DC, in my estimation, has not. However, the DC Animated Universe, is one that I truly enjoy. The CW did a decent job with the Arrow-verse but there are things I would have done differently.
So I have given myself a quest, create my own DC Cinematic Universe in a way that I would find engaging and would be feasible logistically (actors aging out of their roles and such).
What gripes do I have? What limitations?
I don’t want to see a world that is ‘just like ours’ and the heroes start appearing. That’s been done and it puts too many restrictions on where you can go.
I don’t want a reliance on tentpole characters (the Trinity of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman). Absolutely they will be there but I don’t need to start from their origin every time. Let’s start the story in the middle.
I want an emphasis on the non-major characters (Nightwing comes to mind, Legion of Superheroes).
Time Travel shenanigans can definitely happen but they make sense and people can follow what is happening.
Do a Crisis every few years if necessary to replace actors and refresh stories.
Avoid the overdone stories. I’m thinking Doomsday, Bane, Flashpoint. Those stories can be covered but not all the dang time.
Tone shifts. It’s good to have a gritty Batman once in a while but do some lighter stories too. Batman is an adoptive father to a half score of kids, let’s see what those interactions are like.
Fun. I want this to be an interesting ride. Engaging. I want people to care.
Anyway, I started this on Bluesky but found I needed more space to get the ideas out.
This is the place.
