Movie 2 - Legion of Superheroes - Legion in Time

One nice thing about LoS is the full roster. They have a hero for everything. But when I think about how they built the team (large benefactor, recruit), there is the potential for a loss of focus. All of these teens/young adults suddenly living under one roof, it is asking for problems.

The LoS has a full roster but no major threats. When they do try to do any heroic-type work, they get lost in ego and don’t gel very well. The original team members and Brainiac 5 use a time-sphere to observe a young Superman (who is operating out of Smallville as Superboy). Note that the time-sphere will not work for anyone but Brainiac-5. They underestimate him and are discovered. They find young Clark extremely lonely. He can’t confide in anyone and no one can understand what his life is like.

They bring him back to the future with them (though they know this is a very bad idea). Clark really blossoms as part of a team in the 31st Century and wants to stay. A true threat (Fatal Five?) starts trouble. They are defeated but not in an absolute way. Clark realizes that he needs to go home to his family and become the inspiration that the Legion needs.

Irma (Saturn-girl) selectively hides his memories of his own future and they leave him with a Legion ring. Clark goes on with being Superboy but with a new vigor.

After Credits: Battlefield of WWII, there is pandemonium everywhere. As the camera pans through the area, signature sounds of one of the Fatal Five can be heard. Camera continues to show the area and eventually settles on a time-sphere. Inside is Brainiac-5 unconscious, one of the Fatal Five flies by.

Movie 1 - Legion of Superheroes

The way I’d like to approach the DC Universe is from the outside in. By starting with the Legion of Superheroes we start to get an idea of the scope of the universe. How large is the universe? How wonderful is it that we all overcame so much. What did we learn from the Age of Superheroes?

The Legion is an homage to the heroes of their past. Being the 30th/31st Century they are as far removed from today as we are from King Arthur. The legends are there, still inspiring us.

I want to go back to one of the original beginnings of the Legion.

Three teens meet on a Space Cruise. Their names are Rokk, Irma, and Garth. They are from different worlds but this isn’t seen as an odd thing. During a ceremony on the ship they foil an assassination attempt of a VIP, R.J. Brande. Rokk can control magnetism, Irma is a powerful psychic and Garth controls electricity. Their interference gets them accused of the crime. The story revolves around them trying to clear their names and getting to know one-another.

When the case is solved, Brande becomes their benefactor, showing them the inspiring history of the heroes of Earth in the 21st century. He sponsors them to become the Legion of Superheroes.

I want to keep this one light and fun. Play up the inspiration and the excitement of solving the crime. This will play into the introduction of the 21st century world in future stories.

MyDCU - what the heck?

I enjoy a good superhero cinematic universe. I think it has been done pretty well a couple times. Marvel has done okay at it. DC, in my estimation, has not. However, the DC Animated Universe, is one that I truly enjoy. The CW did a decent job with the Arrow-verse but there are things I would have done differently.

So I have given myself a quest, create my own DC Cinematic Universe in a way that I would find engaging and would be feasible logistically (actors aging out of their roles and such).

What gripes do I have? What limitations?

  • I don’t want to see a world that is ‘just like ours’ and the heroes start appearing. That’s been done and it puts too many restrictions on where you can go.

  • I don’t want a reliance on tentpole characters (the Trinity of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman). Absolutely they will be there but I don’t need to start from their origin every time. Let’s start the story in the middle.

  • I want an emphasis on the non-major characters (Nightwing comes to mind, Legion of Superheroes).

  • Time Travel shenanigans can definitely happen but they make sense and people can follow what is happening.

  • Do a Crisis every few years if necessary to replace actors and refresh stories.

  • Avoid the overdone stories. I’m thinking Doomsday, Bane, Flashpoint. Those stories can be covered but not all the dang time.

  • Tone shifts. It’s good to have a gritty Batman once in a while but do some lighter stories too. Batman is an adoptive father to a half score of kids, let’s see what those interactions are like.

  • Fun. I want this to be an interesting ride. Engaging. I want people to care.

Anyway, I started this on Bluesky but found I needed more space to get the ideas out.

This is the place.
