16 - Fix Dining Room Floor

When I moved into this house, there was no central air. The house was built in 1927 so what I had was two gas floor furnaces.

The second year I was here, I decided to add central air. They removed the floor furnaces and used one of the spaces for air intake. the other, in the dining room, they put a piece of plywood over where the furnace used to be. Pretty ugly so I covered it with a table and rug most of the time.

Plywood, where there used to be a furnace.

This year, I decided to do something about it. My neighbor recommended people who had worked on their floor. The price was okay so we started.

the first thing they did was to support the plywood better and remove some of the wood.

A few days later they showed up and basically built a new floor around the vent.

Then came the hard part. I had to empty the dining room. It was amazing how much stuff I had stored in there. I actually found a decent amount of things that weren’t mine. They returned and sanded and finished the floor - a three day process due to time requirements for the finish to cure.

One of the fun things to figure out was my internet. The router and modem entered the house in that room and nothing could stay on the floor while the final work was being done. I ended up putting everything in a laundry bag and hanging it from the wall.

I think the final state was outstanding.
